He grew up in the Mason Oklahoma area, where he enjoyed hunting and playing basketball. He also bought, raised, and sold hunting dogs. Talmadge graduated from Mason High School. In 1946 he went into the Army at the end of World War II.

After being honorably discharged he married Bonnie Carpenter on April 10, 1948, in Ft Smith, Arkansas. They spent sixty-six years together raising their family and enjoying all the grands and great grands.

After the military Talmadge worked on a ranch in the Skiatook area. He spent a number of years being a machinist in Rogers Arkansas, Broken Arrow and the Tulsa area. To finish his career, he got involved in construction and ran his own company. He was involved in the trading market - he would go to flea markets and buy things for as low as he could and then he would sell them to other people always bragging he bought low and sold high. He enjoyed going to the 100-mile flea market on hwy 75 in Kentucky.

Talmadge loved going to Blue Grass Festivals. He loved to travel. Some of his trips took him to California, Texas, and Israel. He loved his dogs - Pedro and Toby. Talmadge never met a stranger, he loved pulling pranks on people, and even though he was very loving he was still very private.
