Patricia Ann Bright

Patricia Ann Spurrier Bright was born February 27, 1943, in El Paso, Texas to Colonel James Ray Spurrier and Lucile Gray (Lafferty) Spurrier. Patricia grew up as an Army Brat which allowed her to experience the world. She spent time living in Fort Riley Kansas, Fort Knox Kentucky, Germany, Taiwan, and Washington D. C., which meant she attended many different military schools, but she graduated from McLean High School in Virginia. She continued her education at Frederick College.

Patricia got married at South Mills, North Carolina in 1962 and her son James Ray was born in 1966 in Fairfax, Virginia. Patricia worked as an architect for Gulf Western Oil and for herself freelancing. As a young lady, she modeled for department stores. Patricia’s life’s work was with the U. S. Calvary Association founded by Colonel James Ray Spurrier, where she was the executive director for over 25 years.

Patricia was very proud of her Osage heritage. She surrounded herself with native regalia. Sitting with her was a delight as she told story after story about all the adventures she had in life. She also enjoyed calligraphy, crocheting, and knitting. Her dogs were a delight to her; Baby, Sugar, Fluffy and Josie.

Patricia Ann Spurrier Bright passed from this life on July 20, 2023, at the nursing home in Barnsdall, Oklahoma at the age of 80. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.

She was survived by her son James Ray Bright; two sisters Lucile Gray “Cindy” Spurrier Christie and Sarah Radcliffe “Sallie” Spurrier Stewart; five grandchildren Zachary James, James Ray, Jesse James, Chynen Zara, and Addison James. She was preceded in death by her parents Colonel James Ray Spurrier and Lucile Lafferty Spurrier.

Patricia’s cremains will be laid to rest at the Bigheart Cemetery in Barnsdall, Oklahoma at a later date. Arrangements have been made by Powell Funeral Service in Hominy, Oklahoma.
