Michael Wayne Stokes

Michael Wayne Stokes was born on August 28, 1979, to Thomas Henry Stokes and Marilyn Sue Stokes (Ward) in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He grew up in the Hominy area with one brother and two sisters. From a little boy he was always playing with cars and wanted to be outdoors. Michael played football in high school in Hominy. Childhood was not easy for Michael, and it had lifelong effects on him.

Michael loved being outdoors. Rather he was fishing, hunting or just relaxing around the campfire and sleeping in a tent, it brought him peace. He was not one who needed lots of people around him, instead he just enjoyed nature and all it had to offer. Most people would consider him to be a rebel, with his multiple tattoos and his carefree life. Michael couldn’t get enough of working on cars. He was always tinkering on some vehicle.

There were certain things in life that he loved with all his heart; his children, his family, his friends and almost any animal that came around. Michael always had pets and many of them were not domesticated; potbellied pigs, rabbits and even a skunk found his way into his home (his mom wasn’t to happy about it).

Michael had some health issues and on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in a Wendy’s parking lot, he was found in his pickup where he had passed away.

Michael is survived by his four children Zeke, Michael Jr, Kaysen, and Jiah; his sisters Jennifer Neal and Tamie Matthews; his brother Thomas Stokes Jr; his ex-wife Beverly Boren; his nieces and nephews Joannie, William, Corey, Ashley, Courtney, and Tevin; plus, numerous other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Stokes and Marilyn Stokes; his cousin Leon Stokes.

A memorial service has been planned for Michael Stokes on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Powell Funeral Home Chapel in Hominy, Oklahoma. Arrangements have been provided by Powell Funeral Service in hominy.
