Larry David Stuart

Larry David Stuart, 69 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at his home in Hominy.

Larry was born May 24, 1948 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Donald J. and Dorothy Pauline (Zachery) Stuart. He began his education at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and went on to graduate from Pawhuska High School in 1966. Larry went to Oklahoma State University and graduated with a BS in Finance, then graduated in 1973 from University of Oklahoma College of Law.

Larry went into private practice in Poteau, Oklahoma and then was Assistant District Attorney in District 12 serving Craig, Rogers and Mayes Counties. He returned to Pawhuska in 1976 and entered private practice. Later he filed to run for Osage/Pawnee county District Attorney. He was elected and sworn in on January 2, 1979, where he served uncontested for 32 years. In August of 2006, Larry received the David Moss Memorial Award for Outstanding District Attorney. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity, Osage County Bar Association, Oklahoma Bar Association and Oklahoma Trial Lawyers Association. Upon retirement as District Attorney on December 31, 2010, Larry became Pastor at the First Christian Church in Hominy, where he served until his death. Larry felt that serving God and His people were his most rewarding moments.

Larry very much enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, riding his "Harley", hunting, fishing, playing golf, visiting the family cabin in New Mexico and as always, the OSU Cowboys. Even though Larry was a Pawhuska Husky, it did not prevent him from becoming an avid Hominy Bucks fan, following his kids and grandkids for many years and always proudly wearing purple. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and would travel great distances to watch them participate in their favorite activities. A trip to Dallas for a little league baseball games was not unusual.

Larry is survived by: his wife of 40 years, Janeen; 3 daughters: Kerri Carter, Bridget Stuart and her husband, David Edwards, Brooke Green and her husband, Mike; 2 sons: Michael Stuart and Jared Stuart; 11 grandchildren: Kelsey Carter, Paul, Bradley and Aileen Edwards, Kolton, Karli and Kade Reed, Emilee Green, Nick Watson, Sage and Ashlee Stuart; stepmother, Betty Stuart, mother-in-law, Betty Dewitt; 3 sisters: Mary and Mel Schmidt, Pat and Kelly Young, Carolyn and Dave Nowotny; 3 brothers: Paul and Dixie Stuart, John and Barbara Stuart, Alexander Stuart; sister-in-law, Sandy Price; 2 step sisters, Karen Gross and Linda Sponsler; 2 brother-in-laws, Perry and Terease Dewitt, and Craig and Lisa Dewitt; 2 uncles: Ronnie Stuart and Douglas Stuart; 2 aunts: Lorene Marsh and Thelma Stevens; and a host of many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by: his parents, Don and Dorothy Stuart; his brother, D. J. Stuart; and his father-in-law, Joie Ray Dewitt; and step brother, Don Sponsler.

The celebration of life was 10:00 AM, Monday, April 30, 2018 at the First Christian Church in Hominy, with Pastor Mark Formby and Pastor Leslie Dotson officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were: Rene Henry, Lawrence Martin, John Boggs, Jimmy Mullins, Lafe Burnett, Tom Hudson, Mike Pattison, Eudell Ryan, and Eric Roth.
