Kenneth Leon Horton, 88, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at his home in Guthrie, Oklahoma.

Kenneth Horton was born March 10, 1934, in Prue, Oklahoma to Willis Jackson Horton and Esther Naomi (Burgess) Horton. Kenneth was born into a very large family. He had five brothers and seven sisters.

Kenneth was a senior at Hominy High School in 1955. He loved playing basketball. Kenneth worked his entire life, beginning picking cotton in the fields with his brothers and sisters. After school he worked as a machinist and later owned Hominy Welding and Machine shop with his brother Parker for about ten years. After the machine shop and a few other endeavors, he went to work for the post office where he worked as rural mail carrier for almost 30 years.

Kenneth met and married the love of his life, Helen Chlodene Taylor on October 4, 1958, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Together they raised three sons and two daughters. Kenneth loved his family and one of the greatest pleasures of his life was watching his kids and grandkids play school sports. He never missed a game.

Kenneth enjoyed watching baseball, especially the St Louis Cardinals. He was an avid coon hunter and fisherman. Busy was the only way he knew how to live. He raised and took care of animals on his farm his entire life and he always loved having a large garden.

Kenneth lived a Christian life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wynona, Oklahoma.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen in the home. His two daughters; Donna Lynes and husband Kenin, Deborah Preschler and husband Jim, two sons; Hal Horton and wife Kerri, and Justin Horton. In addition, one sister; Alma Slane, and one brother; Mark Horton. Kenneth had fourteen grandchildren, (Karoline Laughlin, Anthony Henley, Jackson Preschler, Jessica Reeder, Nathan Lynes, Sean, Kenny, Jonathon and Perry Horton, Abby and Ethan Horton, and Haylee, Laney, and Keylee Horton) and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Esther Horton, and his son, Terry Horton, in addition to four of his brothers and six sisters.

Kenneth’s funeral service is being taken care of by Powell Funeral Service in Hominy, Oklahoma. Kenneth’s service will be Friday, November 18, 2022, at 11:00am, First Baptist Church in Wynona, Oklahoma with burial to follow at A J Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy, Oklahoma.
