Johnie Dwaynne Carter

Johnie Dwaynne Carter was born October 15, 1946 at Wade, OK to Archie and Madine (French) Carter. He was raised and received his education in Hominy, graduating from Hominy High School. On Sept. 4, 1970, Johnie was united in marriage to Della Pitts in Hominy. To this union, two children were born, Cheri and Nick. He spent his life working in the oil fields around Hominy, Wynona and Pawhuska areas. Oily, dirty hands were his life for over fifty years.

Johnie is survived by his loving wife Della; daughter Cheri Towell and son Nick Carter, all of Wynona. He was grandfather to Tosha Stroud and husband Tim, Jennifer Finn and husband Zak, Nickalus Carter, Ryan Carter, Hailey Towell & Ryan Merriman, and Harley Harris and husband Bryce. Also surviving are his sisters Linda Venable and husband Buck, Wilda Swain and husband Bruce and Melva Bostick and husband Jody, all of Hominy.

Johnie passed from this life on Wednesday morning, June 10, 2026 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Tulsa. He was 79 years of age. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 11th at the Powell Funeral Home, Hominy from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, June 12, 2026 at the AJ Powell Memorial Cemetery Pavilion with Travis Barbee and Josh Johnson officiating. Special music will be "He Stopped Loving Me Today", "Dancing in the Skies and the Cherokee version of "Amazing Grace". He will be laid to rest next to his father.
