We celebrate the life and legacy of Homer Lee Purcell, Jr., a man whose life was defined by dedication, love for family and service to his community. Homer was born on May 25, 1950, in Hominy, OK to Homer Lee Purcell, Sr and Nellie May (Moles) Purcell. Raised in the community he would always call home, Homer attended Hominy Public Schools before continuing his education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater...Always a Cowboy!!

Throughout his life, Homer worked in the oil fields driving trucks, helping to organize Special Olympics yearly, worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections from which he retired in 2007. His career reflected the values that guided his life - responsibility, perseverance and dedication. In 1976, Homer married Mary Ruth Woods and built a life in Hominy, sharing many years of love and cherished memories; he cared for her until Mary's passing from cancer on May 28, 1997.

In August of 1998, Homer married Jewell Davis Wheeler, beginning a new chapter filled with companionship, joy and created many special memories through traveling the western part of the United States, going to Powwows, hand games and celebrations. On June 5, 2026, Homer passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, service and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Homer was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Ruth, brother Raymond Lee Purcell and sister Peggy Ann Purcell. He leaves behind a family who loves him dearly and will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his beloved wife Jewell Purcell, brother Norman Purcell (Debbie); Bonus children Frankie Mills and David, Mary Ann Bedient (Ed), Christel Jones (Michael), Charles Wheeler (Misty) and Brad Shepherd. He was also blessed with grandchildren Gracie, Brandon, Caleb (Tuesday), Cameron (Laura), Chelsea, Matt (Ashlyn), Charley, Gabriel, Tyler, Brayden and great grandchildren Titus, Jadelyn, Ember, Wren and Tad who brought him much love, happiness, pride and joy.

Homer is further survived by nieces Raylyn Young (Lance) Jennifer Holder (Donnie), nephews Paul Purcell (Mindy), and Scott Purcell along with great nieces, great nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and friendship. Those who knew Homer will remember a man of strength, steady character, and unwavering loyalty. He had a passion for crafting and woodworking in his shop - he made many beautiful and useful things for friends and family, loved fishing, enjoyed caring for his dogs which he became attached to very easily, traveling the country and being with his grandchildren. He believed in the importance of family, the value of challenging work and the significant presence that brought comfort and stability to those around him.

The measure of life is not found only in the years we live, but in the love, we share, the relationships we build, and the difference we make in the lives of others. By that measure, Homer lived a life of great meaning and purpose. His legacy lives on in the Family he loved the friendships he nurtured and the countless memories that will continue to be shared for generations to come.

As we say goodbye, we give thanks for the gift of Homer's life. Though our hearts are saddened by his passing, we find comfort in the memories he leaves behind and the love that will never fade. May we honor Homer by living with the same dedication, kindness, and faithfulness that he demonstrated throughout his life. May he rest in God's eternal peace, reunited with those who have gone before him and forever remembered by those who loved him. Until we meet again, Homer, you will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
