Dovie Madeline Shedd, 96 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the Pawhuska Nursing Home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. She was a long time Hominy resident.
Dovie was born in Amber, Grady County, Oklahoma on July 3, 1920 to James Phillip and Elizabeth (Swindell) Marcum. Dovie worked at Munsingwear in payroll and as a receptionist, afterwards becoming a cattle rancher. Dovie was married to Leonard Alvie Shedd in Hominy after WWII ended. She always said that her husband was the handsomest man she had ever seen. Dovie was also a member of the Primitive Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma.
Dovie is survived by: 2 sons: Gary Shedd of Hominy, OK and Chuck Shedd and his wife, Denise, of Wynona, OK; 5 grandchildren: Becky Thompson of Charlotte, NC, Jary Shedd of Memphis, TN, Marci Stier of Kansas City, MO, Lori Blossom of Oaks, OK, Lindsay Bruno of Skiatook, OK; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
Dovie is preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Leonard, who passed away on April 24, 1972; 6 siblings: Ernest Marcum, Emmett Marcum, Ted Marcum, Clazzie McIntosh, Ester "Kid" Reynolds and Elsie Luna.
The funeral service was held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Jake Bruno officiating. Pallbearers were: Melvin Blossom, Cody Blossom, Dewayne Graham, Chigger Bost, Roger Higgins, Tracy Kennedy and Duane Petty. Musical selections were: "Will the Circle Be Unbroken", "I'll Fly Away" and "Go Rest High on the Mountain". Burial followed the services at the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery in Hominy.
