Clyde James Reed, resident of Hominy, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, June 2, 2026, at Hillcrest South Hospital in Tulsa. He was 70 years of age. Clyde was born August 19, 1955, in Joyner, Arkansas to Orvel and Roxie (Hobbs) Jones. He was raised and received his education in McAlester, OK, graduating high school there. Following high school, Clyde was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1973, then attended Northwestern University at Alva, OK. He returned to McAlester and began his career with the Oklahoma Dept. of Corrections as a Corrections officer at "Big Mac" in November of 1976. He worked there until 1987, then he transferred to Dick Connor Correctional facility at Hominy. He worked there until he retired in January of 2001.
After retiring from the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, Clyde held different positions over the next 20 years with Loomis Fargo, Tulsa Airport Security, Hillcrest Security, Formby Oil, Bus Driver for Hominy Public Schools, and Cimmaron Public Transit. Clyde may have "retired" in 2001, but he always continued to work.
It was in 1990 that he met the love of his life, Bonnie Hopper. They were united in marriage in Tulsa on December 30, 1993. Bonnie and Clyde had one son, Brady James Reed in 1993. Clyde enjoyed being a father and husband.
Clyde was a simple man who enjoyed playing pool, going fishing with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He loved to play the guitar, and listen to old country music. He also loved “to piddle” as he called it in his garage and yard. He enjoyed cleaning his cars, and always ready for a home project. Clyde had a funny sense of humor. He enjoyed from an early childhood, to very recently, playing a competitive game of marbles, or phase 10 with his sisters, wife, and kids and grandkids. These games would often get intense, with a little bit of cheating sometimes, only to win though.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories are his wife – Bonnie; son Brady Reed and wife Mallory of Cleveland and his three grandchildren – Deegan, Harrison and Thomas Reed. Also surviving is a sister Phyllis McCutchan, and a host of nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Cemetery pavilion in the AJ Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy with Scott Lohah officiating. Visitation for the public will be Friday, June 5th from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. Services have been entrusted to the Powell Funeral Home, Hominy, OK. www.powellfuneralservice.com
