Carol Sue Wayman passed away at the age of 88 in Bartlesville, OK on May 20, 2026.
Carol was born on November 18, 1937, to Marguerite and Barrett Smedley. She had an older sister, Jo Ellen. During her childhood, Carol’s father worked in the oilfields. The family moved to various communities in Oklahoma before settling in Little Chief. Carol attended school in Fairfax, Oklahoma, where she loved to sing and play drums in the band. While there, she met Tommy Daniels. They married and joyfully welcomed three children: Gil Daniels, Denise Daniels and Danette Daniels. During those years, Carol fell in love with the Osage people and culture. The Osage way of life was very dear to her.
Carol later decided to go back to school, earning her bachelor’s degree in Sociology, and a Master’s degree in Corrections from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While at OSU, she received high honors in her studies. After graduation, she worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, then as an insurance agent, and later retired from the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
In 1978, Carol married George Wayman. They were married for forty-two happy years, cherishing their family, friends and community. Carol was also blessed with a stepdaughter, Denta Carter. George and Carol enjoyed spending time with the family they built together, including many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carol loved people. Her best days were spent in the company of friends and family, visiting and telling stories. Carol was full of kindness and had a gift of generosity. Whenever she saw a physical or spiritual need, and felt God’s leading, she would give generously of her time and resources to help. It was her joy.
Most of all, Carol was a woman of great faith. Her relationship with Jesus was her highest priority. She was always quick to share the grace and love of Christ with others, so they could experience Him in their lives as well. In her retirement years, she would tell her family that her job was to pray for her family and friends. She walked closely with the Lord.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Sherriff George Wayman, her son, Gil Daniels, her son-in-law, Roger Lance, grandson, Dustin Lance and great-granddaughter, Montana Rose.
She is survived by her daughters Denise Daniels, Danette Daniels and step-daughter, Denta Carter; Grandchildren John (Susan) Mashburn (great-grandchildren Miranda, Alexis [Max], McKenzie [Yancy], Cooper [Breanne], Jacob [Jordyn], Amos, Ace, James Michael, great-great-grandchildren John Walker, Ryder and Beau), Tasha (Scott) Vaughn (great-grandchildren Canaan, Judah and Tobias), Aaron Daniels, Nick Daniels, Jordan (Lauren) Skocik (great-grandchild Mazi), Missy (Brandon) Keeler (great-grandchildren Branna and Barry), McKale (Tucker) Barnard (great-grandchildren Carter, Tate and Charlie), Mark (Suni) Carter (great-grandchildren Harrison and Lucy). Carol is also survived by her sister, Jo Ellen (Charles) Roe, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
