Carol Yvonne Brown

Carol Yvonne (Lay) Brown of Welch, Oklahoma was born August 2, 1940, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Jeffy and Magdalene (Butler) Lay. She was a twin with her brother, Marvin.  She grew up in the Wild Horse and Wynona areas.   She often spoke of picking a lot of cotton as a child.  Carol graduated from Wynona High School in 1959.  After high school she worked at Munsingwear for a short time before making her career as a housewife.

Carol’s twin brother was working on the pipelines and introduced his sister to Ronald Brown.   The rest is history, as she fell in love and on May 5, 1962, they got married at the Hominy Church of the Nazarene.   They spent 61 years together. Correction, Carol spent 61 years following Ronald around at home and on the job, so she kept up with the practice and just followed him on into heaven.

Carol spent her life caring for Ronald and their children.  Carol was always up for going to Walnut Creek to spend time camping.   Carol would help Ronald run trot lines, clean, and fry the fish.  Together, Carol and Ronald would sit on their front porch drinking coffee and waving at all the neighbors as they passed by.  She would tell you that her husband was quite a handful, but she loved caring for him.  She was his gopher, or tool chaser for most of their lives together.

As a family they loved to ride motorcycles.  She went to every football game that Steve played in and would video each one of them.   She was a big bowler and played in many leagues over the years.  Carol would crochet, clean house, and many other things to make her home run smoothly.   Carol and Ronald always had elaborate vegetable and flower gardens. Carol and Ronald loved being with their kids and grandkids.  She was a great cook; people are going to miss her pistachio pudding cake and chocolate gravy.  Carol loved her hamburgers, ice cream every evening, and peanut M&M’s that her brother Paul would bring her every time he visited. Carol also loved her yorkies, Ginger and Rudy.

Carol Yvonne (Lay) Brown passed from this life on Thursday morning, March 7, 2024, at the Windridge Nursing Home in Miami, Oklahoma at the age of 83.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Donna) Brown, and Sandy (Gary) Layton; eight grandchildren, Jamie McLain, Tierra (Kyle) Eller, Jessica (Jeff) Stoelzing, Dustin ( Amanda) Layton, Jake Brown, Josh (Sabrina) Eastin, Jake Eastin, Taylor (Tyler) Brunk; twenty-three great-grandchildren, Mercedes McAffrey, Cadi McLain, Hadley McLain, Kinley Eller, Trigg Eller, Trey Eller, Paisley Stoelzing, Tucker Stoelzing, Gavin Layton, Gunner Layton, Gage Layton, McKynzi Brown, Jeyton Brown, Sawyer Brown, Levi Brown, Jaxon Eastin, Rian Eastin, Jett Eastin, Ace Eastin, Story Brunk, Style Brunk, Jaela Eastin, and Jenson Eastin: one great-great grandchild, Warren Shores; In-Laws, Wayne (Sonie) Brown, Ben (Betty) Brown, Darlene (Bob) Woolery, Glenda Lay, and Patsy Lay: numerous nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Glenn Brown; her parents, Jeffy and Magdalene (Butler) Lay; her two brothers, Marvin (twin) and Paul Lay; In-Laws, Walter and Mozel (Butcher) Brown.
