Benjamin Thomas Brown

Benjamin Thomas Brown was born on January 13, 1943, in Hominy, Oklahoma to Walter Edward Brown and Mozel Butcher Brown. Ben grew up in the Hominy area with his three brothers and one sister. Ben graduated in the last class at Mound Valley High School in 1961 where he enjoyed playing basketball.

After school Ben joined the United States Navy on January 25, 1962. Ben was one of 300 men assigned to the USS Radford, a fletcher class destroyer. He proudly served for four and half years during the Vietnam era. Ben loved the Navy.

In early adult life Ben married Alice Clark on August 20, 1966. They had two wonderful sons; Benji Brown and Charlie Brown. Ben loved his boys and was very proud of all they have accomplished in life.

After the Navy, Ben went to work for C E Natco and spent 15 years there. Then he went to work for the state of Oklahoma prison system. He was in the maintenance department. At one time he oversaw the maintenance department in three prisons. One of his greatest achievements was being honored by the State of Oklahoma as the employee of the year. He retired from the Dick Connors Correctional Center. While working at Dick Connors Correctional Center, Ben met Betty Cannon. He fell in love and they got married on October 8, 2004, in Miami, Oklahoma.

Ben had a lot of things that brought enjoyment to his life, such as that first cup of coffee in the morning along with a twinkie. He loved his dogs, but the last one Buddy has been his companion since Betty passed. They loved Bingo, in fact he drove the van to pick up people to go to Bingo. They would get paid for every passenger they brought on the van and then Bingo was free for them. Ben loved old cars, going to the casino, the wheel of fortune and playing guitar. He was active in the Assembly of God church for many years where he served as a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School superintendent, and a deacon. If you drive by the church today there is a metal cross out front the Ben made and hung up there. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ben loved anything Navy, he loved being a veteran and going to Navy reunions around the country. More than anything Ben loved being with his family. He loved every one of them.

Ben started have heart issues when he was 58 years old. He has overcome many different physical issues that attacked his health. He had been on oxygen for over ten years but just kept pushing on and thought he would live for another ten years. His health got worse and he went on Hospice last summer.

Benjamin Thomas Brown passed from this life on Monday morning, May 18, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

Benjamin Brown is survived by his two sons Benjamin Thomas Brown II (Crystal) and Charlie Davis Brown (Candy); seven grandkids Autumn, Tylor, Brooklyn, Isabelle, Paige, T J, and Cammi; four great grandchildren Summer, Carson, Tucker and Jovi; his sister Darlene Woolery (Bob); two sister in laws Sonie Brown and Janet Hamilton (Butch); many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Brown; his parents Walter Brown and Mozel Brown; two brothers Ronald Brown and Wayne Brown.

Pallbearers: Tylor Brown, Curtis Hyatt, Krill Bochkarev, T.J. Long, Josh Urdiales, Cody Motes.

Funeral service for Benjamin Thomas Brown will be Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:00 pm, at the Hominy Church of the Nazarene. Followed by burial next to his wife Betty in the A J Powell Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM in the Powell Funeral Home chapel.
