William Otis Totten

William "Bill" Otis Totten Obituary William Otis Totten left this world Monday, April 28, 2014. He was born to William Alfred and Mary Ruth (Hopper) Totten on December 3, 1938 in Hominy, Oklahoma. He was a longtime resident of Wynona, Oklahoma. But, had lived with his daughter, Christy for the last months of his life surrounded by all his children and other family and friends at the time our Father came calling him home at the age of 75 years old. Bill lived with a heart of gold, never forgetting to say I love you and never hesitating to make sure it was said back. He could always make someone smile and always had an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on. Bill graduated from East Central Public Schools, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He served in the United States Navy as a Boiler Operator, from 1955 until 1961. Fighting for his country only slightly prepared him for the unconditional love and fight he would put up to protect his family, and at the end, his life. He was a proud veteran, but even a more proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was our hero who gave unconditionally. He was firm, yet forgiving, stern, yet understanding. He had an open heart with a strong willed attitude. He reminded us that every rose has its thorn, but beautiful nonetheless. He retired from the Osage County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy in 2002 at the age of 63. He also retired as Chief of Police in Wynona in 2007 at the age of 68. Bill was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Pershing, Oklahoma. Bill's hobbies were hunting, fishing, wood working, ranching, horse training, playing the guitar and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Bill is survived by his 3 sons: Ronnie Totten and wife Philomena of Patterson, LA, Dale Totten of Aurora, CO, and Joseph Totten of Terlton, Oklahoma; 2 daughters: Christina Totten Hollowell and husband Terry of Terlton and Cynthia Totten of Kingston, Oklahoma; and Mary Totten mother of his children. 8 grandchildren: Nicholas Totten, Ladawn Gilbert, Ashley Totten, Brittany Totten, Samone Malloy, Mary Totten, Jeremiah Rhodes and Miranda Saltzman. 5 great grandchildren: Blaine, Allison, Nevaeh, Maverick and Alley. 3 brothers: Rick Totten of Missouri, Eugene Totten and Bobby Barnett both of Oklahoma; and a sister: Barbara Stone of Oklahoma; and last but not least his Buddy, Scrubby. He was preceded in death by grandparents: Bandy and Lucille McCoy of Hominy, father and mother: William Alfred and Mary Ruth Goodwin and a brother Johnny Barnett. A special thanks to Rivercross Hospice and the caring nursing staff (Carolyn, Stephanie and Lisa) that cared for our dad with such compassion. Viewing hours will be Wednesday the 30th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Thursday the 1st from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Lay officiating.
