Richard Dick Franklin Lay Sr., Obituary Richard Dick Franklin Lay Sr., age 77 of Prue, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord April 21, 2011 at Tulsa, Oklahoma. Richard was born June 23, 1933 in Prue, Oklahoma to Doss Franklin and Cinda (Keeling) Lay. Richard married Carol Walker August 8, 1964 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Richard graduated from the Prue Public Schools, and then attended Northeastern State University and Tulsa University receiving a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. He was a lifelong Prue resident, with the exception of a few years spent in Tulsa and in military service. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and was awarded a Letter of Commendation for his work in the service. He taught school in Prue, serving as a coach and later superintendent until his retirement in 1986. Dick is a Christian and member of the First Baptist Church, Prue. He was a devoted family man that cherished time spent with his wife and children. He was a man of many talents and interests throughout his life. He enjoyed music and played the banjo, guitar, mandolin, harmonica and fiddle"pretty much any instrument he laid his hands on. His interests included fishing Keystone Lake, beekeeping, and painting. He had a thorough knowledge of construction, which he used to serve his community. Richard is survived by his wife of the home, Carol Lay, three wonderful children: Richard Franklin Lay Jr., and wife Cheryl of Edmond, Oklahoma, Elizabeth Betsy Ann Trelenberg and husband Tom of Livermore, California, and Leslie Lay Henneke and husband Michael of Tulsa, Oklahoma; four grandchildren: Alexandria Leah Lay, Rachel Lay, Walker Thomas Trelenberg and Leif Thomson Trelenberg; and one sister: Barbara Kay Cypert of Prue, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother E.J. Lay and sister Betty Jo Tillman. Funeral Services were Monday, April 25, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Prue with Bro. Kenneth Lay officiating and Bill Lay reading the obituary. Garry McDevitt sang How Beautiful Heaven Must Be at the cemetery. Interment was in the Prairie View Cemetery at Prue, Oklahoma. Arrangements were made with Powell Funeral Home, Hominy, Oklahoma.
