Mary Ellen Dallas

Mary Ellen Rust Dallas was born on January 28, 1917 in Chandler Oklahoma, the sixth child of Charles Henry Rust and LuVerna West Rust. She passed from this life on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 in Pawnee, Oklahoma having reached the age of 96 years, 4 months, and 15 days. Mary was raised a share croppers daughter in the Wellston and Luther area before moving to Pawnee. She often talked of her life there and the many memories of her youth. She met Henry Thomas Dallas in Pawnee and they were married when she was sixteen years old on April 11, 1933. There were married fifty-four years before he preceded her in death on February 20, 1988. Henry and Mary made their home east of Pawnee about a mile from the Dallas homestead. They raised two sons, Clarence Elton Dallas and Elmer Lee Dallas, and were very active in the lives of their four grandchildren, Ronnie, Leesa, Denise and Christy Dallas. Mary worked side by side with Henry on the farm raising wheat, cattle, chickens, turkeys and kids all of her life, and she was very proud of all the hard work she put into their farm and family. She worked at Emily Mills for several years and enjoyed her time there but retired to help take of her grandchildren. She loved to sew for her granddaughters and made all of their sixth grade graduation dresses along with a few hundred more things for them. She loved to crochet and tried to crochet most of her great grandchildren “afghans” before she got to the point she couldn’t hold a crochet needle any more. Most of the blankets were crooked and an array of many bright colors, but were made wanting to be able to give them something she had made. She was also a member of the Pleasant View Extension Club. Mary enjoyed cooking and was one of the best cooks around. She loved baking desserts most of all and at every family gathering there were as many desserts as there was a meal. She prepared lunch (which she called dinner) for her family almost every day while watching her favorite stories “soap operas” which were Days of Our Lives, and the Price is Right, followed by the news and market report. Mary and Henry enjoyed fishing. They spent a lot of time with Myrt, O’dell, and Ann fishing at Blue River, Lake Murray, Keystone, and the catfish ponds on “the place”. She also had many family and friends that she enjoyed spending time with. Stories could go on forever about the life she led, but mostly she had a deep love of life and family, and will be missed by all the ones who knew and loved her. Mary is survived by: Son:Clarence Dallas & his wife, Patsy, Pawnee, Oklahoma Granddaughters:Leesa Dallas Caldwell & her husband, Jerry, Pawnee, Oklahoma Christy Dallas Jones & her husband, Frank, Pawnee, Oklahoma Denise Dallas Beagle & her husband, Roger, Enid, Oklahoma 20 Great Grandchildren 15 Great-Great Grandchildren Special friend:Vernon Crabtree, Pawnee, Oklahoma Plus a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
