Martha Joan (Rider) Arian Obituary Martha Joan (Rider) Arian, age 65, a long-time resident of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away July 7, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Martha was born January 21, 1946 in Hominy to Jody Sylvester and Mary Josephine (Upchurch) Rider. Martha was the granddaughter of Minnie (Thorpe) Rider and great niece of Olympic Gold Medalist, Jim Thorpe. She was a member of the Sac N Fox Tribe. She attended Hominy Public Schools and NEO A&M in Miami, Oklahoma getting her vocational nursing degree; spending nearly 40 years caring for others working various positions in Oklahoma Hospitals: St. Johns, Hillcrest and Colorado's Ft. Lyon Veterans Hospital where she met her husband of 20 years, Roy Arian. Martha and Roy were married November 11, 1990 in Las Animas, Colorado. They moved and lived in Texas both working for Veterans Affair Hospital in Kerrville. Martha was an associate and member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Vietnam Veterans of America and she was a proud American showing support to all the troops. Martha and her husband Roy moved to Hominy in 2008 to enjoy retirement and be closer to family and friend; they were members of Hominy, First Baptist Church. Martha is survived by her husband Roy of the home, a daughter Mary LeAnn Shiplet and husband Mark Allen of Enid, Oklahoma; a half brother Jimmy Thornton of Terlton, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Jacqueline Michelle Rider. Funeral services for Martha were Monday, July 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Formby officiating. Music selections were "The Old Rugged Cross", His Eye Is On The Sparrow", "Lord, I'm Coming Home", "Just A Closer Walk With Thee"; Vocalist Charles Crawford and John Crawford with Melvina Prather Accompanist; and taped music "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" with Mary LeAnn Shiplet Vocalist. Casket Bearers were Rick Rider, Jimmy Thornton, Stacey Thornton, Charles Crawford, John Crawford, Mark Shiplet, Frank Hudson and Honorary Casket Bearer Dale Sharpnack. Interment in the A.J. Powell Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Hominy, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Research Foundation.
