Lloyd “Blackie” Chapman was born at home in Pawnee, Oklahoma on December 22, 1930 to Henry Chapman and Lonie Tatum Chapman. He passed from this life on Friday, November 14, 2014 in Pawnee, Oklahoma having reached the age of 83 years, 10 months, and 23 days. He lived west of Pawnee at the Chapman home place with his siblings, Basil, Tommy, Daisy, Earl, Wanda, Bob, Alice, Millie, Charlie, and Linda. He attended the Olive Hill School, west of Pawnee, the Old Castle School, and Pawnee Indian School. In April of 1948, at the age of seventeen, Blackie lied about his age to join the U. S. Marine Corps. He faithfully served his country for a total of twenty-five years, having retired in 1973. During his service he received the Korean Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Services Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with one cluster; Presidential Unit Citation with two clusters; Korean Service Medal with one cluster; Republic of Vietnam Service Medal with four clusters; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Navy Commendation Medal with device, Good Conduct Medal; Merit Unit Citation of the Gallantry Cross with palm, and also won the Sharp Shooter and Expert Rifleman Medals. During his service, his son, Lloyd “Anthony” Chapman of Hotevilla, Arizona was born. Anthony has two sons, Jonathan and Eric; and one daughter, Monique. Later on, Blackie united in marriage to Leona Sarnie and Patrick and Brett Michael Chapman were born. In the 1980’s Blackie married Rita Simpson, who preceded him in death. Throughout his life Blackie thoroughly enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always a very friendly, caring individual who will be remembered by his infamous “smile” and the little tunes he hummed and whistled. Later in life he enjoyed travelling with Bob and Carole Chapman, “back roading” and eating at McDonald’s every day. He also liked to kiss the ladies hands. Blackie is survived by three sons, Lloyd Anthony of Hotevilla, Arizona; Patrick of Muskogee; and Brett Michael of Ft. Gibson; eight grandchildren, Jonathan and Eric of Hotevilla, Arizona; Monique Chapman of Pawnee; Samantha, Michael, Logan, Brandon and Mathew of Muskogee; his cherished siblings; Wanda Chapman and her husband, Raymond of Yale; Alice Woods of Stillwater; Millie Chapman of Pawnee; Linda Jestes and her husband, Ronnie of Pawnee; and Charles W. Chapman of Pawnee; plus a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends who will always remember him. Besides his wife, Blackie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lonie Chapman; four brothers, Basil, Thomas, Earl, and Robert; and one sister, Daisy Miller. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Pawnee Nation Roam Chief Event Center, with Rev. Lynn “Butch” Eaves officiating. Interment will be at the South Indian Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma.
