Dr. Kenneth M. Tucker passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Oklahoma City, Ok at the age of 89. Ken was born in Huntington, West Virginia on September 4, 1925 to Henry Thomas Tucker and Zelda Wellman Tucker. He was the youngest of four children. After graduating from high school, Ken joined the United States Air Force. He was active duty for 3 years during World War II. At the end of World War II, Ken attended Marshall University in Huntington, WV. He married Phyllis Burchett in 1948 in Huntington. He went on to attend the University of Maryland Dental School in Baltimore and then practiced general dentistry in Logan, WV. He and his family later moved to Portsmouth, VA where he joined the Public Health Department. From Portsmouth, he moved to Hampton, VA where he joined the Veteran’s Administration. He then moved to Leavenworth, KS where he completed a residency in prosthetic dentistry at the University of Missouri Dental School in Kansas, City. Upon completion, he was transferred to the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City where he worked until his retirement in 1986. After the death of his first wife, he married June Brensing whom he met at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. They married in Oklahoma City on February 6, 1971 at Village United Methodist Church where they remained members. After he joined the Army Reserve, he attended Command General Staff and two years of Army War College in Carlisle, PA and attained the rank of Full Bird Colonel. He enjoyed many things in his life. He loved to travel with his wife, and enjoyed many cruises with their friends. He also made time to golf with his friends, hunt and fish with his grandson and read books. He was a sports enthusiast and loved watching any sport. Ken was an avid rose grower and was a member of the Oklahoma Rose Society for many years. Ken enjoyed being a member of the Northwest Lions Club in Oklahoma City and later transferred his membership to Pawnee, Oklahoma when he and June built their home there in 2008. One of his favorite trips was a mission to Rio Bravo, Mexico over Christmas vacation where he and members of his church built homes. Upon moving to Pawnee, Ken and June joined the First Methodist Church of Pawnee where he lived until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three siblings and his first wife. He is survived by his wife June of the home, son Michael Thomas Tucker of Kyle, TX, daughter Susan Tucker Carruth and her husband David Carruth of Norman, OK, grandchildren Jonathan and Stephanie Tucker, Andrew and Amy Carruth, great grandson Matthew Tucker and many other loving friends and family. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to First United Methodist Church in Pawnee, Oklahoma United Methodist Circle of Care or a charity of your choice. Those who knew and loved Ken found him to be the ultimate gentleman. We are grateful for your love and support. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Pawnee, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Rev. Susan Ross. Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery, Pawnee, Oklahoma under the direction of Poteet Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pawnee, Oklahoma. A Memorial service will be held in Oklahoma City on Thursday January 29, 2015 at 2:00P.M. at the Village United Methodist Church 2501 West Britton Road, The Village, Ok.
