James Carl Newman

James Carl Newman, 83, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on March 3, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Powell Funeral Home in Hominy, Oklahoma. Burial will follow in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery. Officiating will be Reverend Jack Hobbs. Jim was born March 25, 1924 in Virgil, Kansas, he went to school at Wolfe Wing near Seminole, OK. He joined the U.S. Army in Wyoming as a horseman with the 115th Calvary. He was an expert marksman and a military policeman until his discharge at the end of World War II in 1945. Jim loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing. If he wasn't out in his fishing boat, you could find him in his woodworking shop making birdhouses for friends and relatives. Jim married the love of his life in 1945, the former Betty Lou Willcox, of Hominy, OK. They loved to travel in the U.S. and Canada and would make a trip to Arizona for the winter months in their motor home as long as their health would allow. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Casper, Wyoming, the Masonic Lodge #15 A.F.A.M. of Casper, Wyoming, Korean Temple of A.A.O.N.M.S. of Rawlins, Wyoming, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Bodies of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Casper Shrine Club of Casper, Wyoming, 115th Cavalry Association-Rocky Mountain Division in Casper, Wyoming and The Teamsters Union #70 Oakland, California. Jim is survived by Betty, his wife of 62 years, two sons Russell James Newman of Casper, WY, Kenneth Wayne Newman of Woodside, CA., three grandchildren; James A. and Jeffrey D. Newman of California, Elaine Salsbury and Justin Schindler; one sister, Betty Reinhardt of Phoenix, AZ., and a step sister; Ina Reinhardt of Overton, NV., and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and many special friends.
