James A Osburn

James Arthur Osburn Sr. was born July 30, 1934, in Osage, OK to Arthur Robert and Octa Mae (Patterson) Osburn. Although he started life in Osage, his family soon moved to Hominy. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, his family moved to Tulsa. When the war was over, they moved back to Hominy. Jim was a tried and true Hominy Buck, graduating in 1952. After High School, he went to OSU/Okmulgee Tech and received a Certificate in Drafting.

Jim and Louise met in 1953. Their first date was on the night of his graduation from OSU/Okmulgee Tech. They married on March 31, 1954. They were blessed with three children, Butch, Karen and Norma.

Jim was in the Army in 1954 and 1955. In January 1956, he and Louise moved to Stillwater, where he attended OSU and studied Architectural Engineering. After a few semesters, he was unable to finish his degree because he was color blind. They then moved to Okmulgee where he received an Associates Degree in Drafting from OSU/Okmulgee Tech. Upon graduation, he and Louise moved to Tulsa where he was employed as a draftsman at Graver Tank and then Dresser Engineering. As a young man, he had a dream of owning Hominy Auto Supply. He and Louise sold everything they could and purchased the business in 1972, and moved back to his home town. They ran the store together for 32 years. The store became a family hangout as each of their children and most of the grandchildren worked there.

Jim was an avid sportsman. If there was a ball involved that could be bounced, hit, kicked, thrown, rolled or caught, he loved it! He was a pitcher in a Tulsa fast pitch softball league for many years. He loved playing a round of golf anytime he and John got the chance. He loved OSU and Hominy Buck Sports and he bled purple and orange.

He enjoyed drag racing and wood working. He and his son Butch were partners in the O & O Racing and restored a 1966 Nova. They named it the Star of Oz. They attended drag racing events in many different states, and Butch still owns that car.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise, his children, Butch and Kay Osburn of Hominy, Karen and Alan Hough of Wynona, and Norma and Steve Tilley of Hominy, seven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and a dear family friend John Sullivan.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Art and Octa Osburn.

A memorial service for James will be held Saturday, February 13 at 11:00AM at the Nazarene Church in Hominy, with Pastor Carl Brown Officiating. Musical selections will be "Green Leaves of Summer", "Vaya Con Dios", and "Peace in the Valley."
