Herman Tucker

Herman Walter Tucker went to be with the Lord April 13, 2013, in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 93. He was the son of Jerry A. Tucker and Iva Wells Tucker. He was born in Quay, Oklahoma, on October 31, 1919. He and his wife, Margaret Jestes Tucker, were married September 30, 1939, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and made their home in Pawnee where they owned and operated Pawnee County Furniture and Hardware. They also enjoyed many years of traveling in their Airstream travel trailer. Herman often proudly declared that they had traveled the highways as far as they went in every direction in the United States. They also enjoyed pulling their Airstream into Mexico, Central America and Canada. His favorite destination was Wyoming, where they enjoyed many seasons of hunting and fishing. Herman accepted Jesus as His Lord and Savior at the First Baptist Church of Pawnee and served many positions there including deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. In 2003, they moved from Pawnee to Zavalla, Texas, where they were members of Texas Airstream Harbor. They enjoyed several years of living and fishing on Sam Rayburn Lake and friendship with other Airstreamers. They moved to Arlington in 2010 where they lived at Fox Run Estates, and Herman entertained new friends with stories and his singing. Herman is survived by his wife, Margaret Tucker, of their home in Arlington, Texas, one daughter, Sandra Morris and her husband, Jerry, Arlington, Texas, grandson, James Tucker and his wife, Yayoi, of Honolulu, Hawaii, granddaughter, Tina Stayton and husband Mark, Kingwood, Texas, eight great grandchildren, sister, Erma Dean Young and her husband, Dale, of San Marcos, Texas, along with a number of nieces, and nephews, and many friends, both locally and throughout the United States. Herman was preceded in death by his son, James Hale Tucker who was killed in Vietnam while flying reconnaissance missions. Herman was very proud of him and his service to our country. Also preceding Herman in death were his granddaughter, Deborah Tucker Garrett; his parents, Jerry and Iva Tucker; and his brothers and sisters; Vilas and Opal Tucker, Alvin and Juanda Tucker, Marvin and Etta Jo Tucker, Viola and Joe Perrine, Goldie and Elmer Hendrix, Velma and Rudy Aljo, Rosa Lee and Charles Conarro, and Jerry Tucker, Jr., who is survived by his wife Emma of Pawnee. Services will be held in the chapel at Highland Cemetery, Wednesday, April 17, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Church, 720 6th Street, Pawnee, Oklahoma, 74058.
