Harlan "Pete" Moffett

Pete Moffett was born on December 17, 1920 in rural Missouri near Prairie Hill in Charlton County to Harlan Hubbard Moffett and Ruby Lenora Gray Moffett. He passed from this life on Friday, March 8, 2013 in Pawnee, Oklahoma having reached the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 22 days. He married Leota Nadine Singleton in Columbia Missouri on January 22, 1944, and she preceded him in death on September 17. 1995. He retired from the Missouri State Highway Department in December of 1985 as a Chief Structural Bridge Designer after World War II and the Korean War achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He continued to serve the community through the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Camp Wonderland for handicap children, the VFW and American Legion. He was a life member of the VFW and American Legion serving in many capacities including Post Commander and District Commander of the American Legion in Missouri. He led a Boy Scout den for handicapped young men, and loved helping others. He moved with his oldest daughter, Alice, to Pawnee Oklahoma in April 2004 where he remained until his death. He greatly enjoyed spending his early mornings at the donut shop visiting with his friends there, and loved history and historical places, and going to auctions. Pete is survived by: Sons:Leonard Harlan Moffett, Cabool, Missouri Leslie Lee Moffett, Los Fresnos, Texas Daughter:Linda Faye Moffett Britt, Pawnee, Oklahoma 8 Grandchildren Plus a number of great grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends. Besides his beloved wife of over 50 years, Leota Nadine Moffett; he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Lenora Sue Moffett; daughter, Alice Marie Moffett; his parents; and his brother, Joseph Addison “Little Joe” Moffett. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013 at the First Christian Church, Pawnee, with Rev. Tom Scott officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 P.M. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Prairie Hill Cemetery, Prairie Hill, Missouri.
