Foster Friou Johnson, Jr. Obituary The greatest competitor has crossed the final finish line. His race was won. The time had come to join his greatest fan, Peggy Hughes Johnson, in Heavens glory. May 6, 2008 Foster Friou Johnson, Jr., passed away at his home in Hominy, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones. Foster was born February 5, 1920, in Mangum, Oklahoma. He grew up in Carter, Oklahoma, where he was a self-disciplined fierce competitor. He attended Oklahoma A & M College (now OSU). There he began his collection of hundreds of track medals, which he continued winning well into his 80s. He was inducted into the OSU First Century Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1982. Foster and two younger brothers were the first brothers to all three letter in track the same year. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Science and later a Masters Degree in Agronomy from OSU. He married the Peg of his heart on January 10, 1942. He served in the Army Medical Corp during WWII, he also served in the Navel Reserves and flew in the Army Air Corp. He was a lifetime educator and learner, teaching for 39 years and earning many additional college hours above his Masters Degree. He taught Veterans, Vocational Agriculture, Math, Science, as well as being an Academic Counselor, Athletic Director, and an Administrator. Foster was an active member of his community. He was a member of the Rotary and the American Legion. He could be seen frequenting the local bowling lanes as well as the school track. He and his wife were members of the Hominy Church of the Nazarene. He was frequent contributor to the Hominy News Progress. Foster was preceded in death by his beloved wife Peggy Hughes Johnson; his parents, Zana Ell Guthrie and Foster Friou Johnson, Sr.; three brothers, John G. Johnson, Dr. Donald E. Johnson and James T. Johnson; and one grandson, James Scott Murphy. He is survived by his sister, JoEllen Jorde of Guadalajara, Mexico; daughters, Penny A. Murphy and husband Jim of Hennessey, Oklahoma; Sherry J. Harwood and husband William of Cushing, Oklahoma; Linda Sue Stewart and husband Ed of Yale, Oklahoma; Michele L. Hough and Saintly husband Cris of Hominy; sons, Glen R. Johnson and wife Karen of Hunnewell, Kansas; Joe Hughes Johnson and wife Sandy of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; cousins, Mary Jon Sheldon and husband Bill of Fayetteville, Arkansas; James Hayes Johnson and wife Nita of Moore, Oklahoma; Shirley Benson and husband Joe of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous family and friends. Funeral services were Friday, May 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Nazarene Church in Hominy. Pastor Carl Brown officiated the service, and Norma Tilley and Karen Hough sang Onward Christian Soldiers Amazing Grace and Always. Honorary casket bearers were Roy Johnson, Jacob Hough and Tom Lilly. Casket bearers were Michael Stewart, Jeremy Johnson, Justin Stewart, Brian Stewart, Dustin Hough, Christopher Hough and Joseph Richardson. Military services were conducted by the VFW 5th District Rifle Squad. Burial was at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery. The family entrusted the arrangements to Powell Funeral Home.
