Ella Lu Mckenzie

Ella Lu McKenzie, 89 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017 at her son's home in Hominy.

Lu was born in Eldora, Iowa, on October 4, 1928 to Ralph and Florence (Burgess) Bywater. Her family moved to Oklahoma in 1938, and she graduated from El Reno High School in 1946. She attended Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, receiving a Bachelor's Degree.

Lu met her husband, Max McKenzie, while attending Cameron University. They were married in December of 1947. They were married for 50 years, when Max passed away. Max was a football coach and also a teacher and they made their home in Tishomingo, Pawnee, Bixby in Oklahoma and Edwards Air Force Base in Riverside, California. They then came to Hominy, for Max to be the football coach at Hominy High School.

Lu worked as an admitting clerk at Hominy Hospital for two years and as the secretary to the Principal at Hominy High School, for 25 years, retiring at 1991. She was a member of the Alpha Delphian Club and the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed anything to do with family, being a coach's wife, a football Mom, and family get togethers. Lu liked playing cards with friends, and trot-line fishing with Max, working with her church, and having her grandchildren around her.

Lu is survived by: her son, Larry McKenzie and his wife, Tonya, of Hominy, OK; her daughter, Elain McKenzie of San Antonio, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Allison Cass, Micheal & Heather McKenzie, Max & Casey McKenzie, Michelle McKenzie, Matthew McKenzie, Marcus McKenzie, and 9 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Lu is preceded in death by her: husband, Max; her son, Bill; her daughter-in-law, Carla McKenzie; her parents, Ralph and Florence Bywater; and 2 sisters: Pat Diehl, and Betty Bayless.

Lu's Celebration of Life will be celebrated at 1:30 PM, Sunday, November 26, 2017 with her grandsons, Micheal and Max McKenzie officiating, with all the other grandchildren speaking.
