Betty Louise Ballard

Betty Louise Ballard, 88 years, of Hominy, Oklahoma, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at her residence in Hominy.

Betty was born in Coffeyville, Kansas on November 14, 1927 to Louis S. and Lora Thelma (Akers) Bitters. She graduated from Nowata High School in 1945. On May 5, 1945, she married Gerald Houston "Jess" Ballard. They moved to Hominy in 1956.

Betty attended Antioch Christian Fellowship Church in Wynona, Oklahoma and was faithful in picking up children and families for Sunday school and church. She was a Sunday school teacher and Youth Leader for many years. She was a community leader and organizer for the International and National Day of Prayer. She was a pioneer for our family in her support in prayer and finances for missions for the Gospel to go forth throughout the world.

Betty served 25 years with the Osage County Election Board and made sure her older grandchildren knew the election process and that their vote counted. She was an avid historian and supporter of patriotism for American freedom and wrote countless letters and correspondence to Washington, D. C. to make sure her voice was heard. Her thirst for knowledge was never quenched!

Betty was quite active in her community serving on: The American Legion Auxiliary; The Garden Club for 50+ years holding office of President several times and currently was Treasurer; The Hospital Auxiliary when Hominy was blessed with a local hospital; A Girl Scout Leader; As an enumerator for the Agriculture Department doing the census of livestock and farm land of State farms and ranches for 25 years; and She rode proudly for several years as Mrs. Claus in the Hominy Christmas parade and also Betsy Ross in the 4th of July Parade.
Betty was a proud grandmother in support of her 3 grandsons and great-grandson as Hominy Bucks. She considered her greatest accomplishment, her marriage, children and grandchildren! There was always an open door policy for her children's friends and there was usually a house full!

Betty is survived by: her husband: Gerald "Jess" H. Ballard; 4 children: Lora Mae Dobbins of Hominy, OK, Jerry David Ballard of Hominy, OK, Jane Louise Gover, of Houston, TX and Lila Larie Hamilton and her husband, Wally of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren: Lora Beth Malloy of Killarney, Ireland, Amy Louise Dobbins and her companion, Jon Graham, of Hominy, OK, Jennifer Lee Gover of Houston, TX, Jerry Don Ballard and wife, Courtney of Pryor, OK, Jenna Lenore Gover of Houston, TX, Jessica Lynn Stamp and her husband, Trevor of Houston, TX, Jerad David Ballard and his wife, Kimanda of Skiatook, OK, and Dr. Jonathan Dewitt Ballard of Hominy, OK; 8 great-grandchildren: Blake Ryan Bohner and his wife, Shelby, Xavier Perdue, Zander Perdue, Landon Cole, Caleb Stamp, Leighton Ballard, Tommy Stamp, and Matilyn Ballard; her brother, Richard Bitters of Eufaula, OK and her sister, Loretta Harrison and her husband, Joe, of Midland, TX.
