Betty Jean Shadley

Betty Shadley is now completely whole. You see, she died December 28, 2016, and is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:1-10.) Betty Jean Corbell was born November 5, 1930, to Albert and Ruby (nee Surritte) Corbell in Hominy, Oklahoma. Betty graduated Hominy High School and married her high school sweetheart, Lawrence Jerome Ring, on November 9, 1950. Jerry was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army with the 101st, 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions, and they traveled the world with the military to Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland and Italy. Jerry and Betty have two daughters, Colleen Gayle and Carrie Lynn. Betty's first job was at First National Bank in Hominy, to which she returned and worked until her retirement. Betty married Ernest Shadley, Jr., on July 23, 1982, and they resided in Hominy until his death. She then moved to Ponca City and resided there until her death.

Betty loved God and His Word. She prayed continually for her family and was a sounding board and plumb line to many of us. Her favorite advice was to "Put your foot on the Rock!" (2 Samuel 22:2; Psalms 18:2; Matthew 7:24-27.) She loved Gospel music and hymns and enjoyed singing, reading, painting, sewing, crafting, and especially her embroidery machine, on which she made many special gifts for friends and family even while in the nursing home. She loved to see the children of her nurses and aides in the nursing home, almost as much as her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her eyes would especially sparkle when she saw babies. She loved new life!

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Albert and Ruby Corbell, grandparents George and Virgie Surritte, sister, Verva Frommie, and husband Ernie Shadley.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Colleen Patterson and husband Lloyd of Ponca City, granddaughter Ashley Gray and fiancé Chris Hinojosa of Claremore, granddaughter Amie Huster and great-grandchildren Lexie and Logan Huster of Ponca City, and grandson WO1 Chad Patterson, U.S. Army, currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Alyda Durfey & Wyatt Patterson, of Tennessee; her daughter Carrie Kaup and husband Mike of Tonkawa, grandchildren Rachael Young and husband Matt of Choctaw, and Levi Kaup of Tonkawa; Jerry Ring of Stroud, who was a wonderful companion and comfort to her during the last two years in the nursing home; her brother, Lee Roy Skinner of Arizona; her brother, Cletis Corbell of Tulsa and nieces Carla Hunt and husband Chuck of Tulsa, Karen Ellis of Owasso, and Diane Haskins of Broken Arrow, and nephew John Corbell and wife Angie of Stillwater. Betty is also survived by Ernie's children, who she loved as her own, Carol Ann Hamilton and husband Bob of Topeka, Kansas, grandson Jeff Hamilton and wife Jill, great-grandchildren Luke and Cade, and granddaughter, Jana Cashier and husband Ryan; son Jerry Shadley and wife Tina of Topeka, Kansas, granddaughter Heather Mathias and husband Jon, great-granddaughter Abigail, grandson Shawn Shadley and wife Angelia; and daughter Connie Netahla and husband Larry of Harper, Kansas, grandson Doug Boese and wife Cherice, great-grandson Chancelor Boese and wife Chelsea, great-great-granddaughter Claire Boese, great-grandson Skyler Boese, great-granddaughters Cassidy and Sydney, grandson Richard Boese and wife Tonya, great-granddaughter Zoey Boese and great-grandsons Zachary, Zedekiah and Riley-Joe Boese; & honorary grandsons Justin Huster & BJ Gray, both of Ponca City, OK.

The funeral service was held at 1:30 PM, Monday, January 2, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Hominy, Oklahoma with the Pastor Mark Formby, of Hominy First Baptist Church, and Scott Melton, Associate Pastor of Northeast Baptist Church, in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
