Betty Dewitt

Betty Jo Perry Dewitt was born January 2, 1924 in Prue, Oklahoma to Frederick Irvin and Zollie Irene Devore Perry. She attended school and graduated in 1942 from Prue High School. Shortly after graduation she met Joie Ray Dewitt and they were united in marriage June 20, 1943 and she followed him to various military bases until he went overseas during WWII. After Joie Ray’s return home, they started their family and Betty became a “Ranch Wife”, a title she enjoyed for many years.

In 1960 Betty was helping a friend during inventory at Allman Grocery and found that she enjoyed working with the public. After over 10 years there she worked at Claude’s Grocery for several years before finding her “Home” at Bill Walls Chevrolet and Oldsmobile and after 17 years she retired when Bill and Joyce did in 1994.

Betty was a lifelong member of the Hominy First Christian Church. She had many natural talents and enjoyed them every day. Sewing, painting, crocheting, needle point and yard work were among her favorites. For many years one of her favorite things to do was work at the flower shops during the holidays.

Betty is survived by her three children, Janeen Stuart, Perry and wife Tereasa and Craig and wife Lisa. She is “Nan” to Kerri Carter, Brooke Green and husband Mike, Bridget Stuart Edwards and husband David, Cody Dewitt and wife Kayla, Summer Akin and husband Justin, Jared Stuart, Corbin Dewitt and wife Brooke, and 13 “greats”, Kelsey, Kolton, Sage, Karli, Ashlee, Aileen, Bradley, Kade, Rya, Paizlee, Miles, Addison, and Charlie; two nieces, Kara Barberia and Terri Dunmire; two nephews, Mark Dewitt and Jay Dewitt and their families.

Preceding Betty in death is the love of her life, Joie Ray, her parents Fred and Irene Perry, son-in-law, Larry Stuart and grandson, Michael Stuart.

Visitation for Betty will be 9:00AM-5:00PM,  Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11:00AM, Saturday, January 2, 2020 at the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery at the pavilion. The family encourages practicing social distancing and masks are preferred.
