Obituary for Bennie B. Kent Bennie B. Kent, age 79 of Hominy passed away February 20, 2010 at his residence in Hominy. Bennie was born April 17, 1930 in the Middle Enterprise Community, Hominy to Otis Jefferson and Margaret C. (Kent) Wallace. On November 10, 1954 Bennie and Mary Genevieve Burton were married in Hominy; Genevieve preceded him in death April 12, 2006. He had been a life-long Hominy area Resident. He attended Hominy Public School. Bennie joined the National Guard in 1947, then from 1950 to 1953 served as a Private in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Bennie worked as a welder for Flint Steel for 16 years, and held numerous jobs after Flint Steel. He was a member of Hominy, First Baptist Church and the Boilermakers Union while at Flint Steel. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, visiting with his numerous friends, and Bennie liked to share his garden vegetables. Bennie liked to help people out, taking them to buy groceries, to the doctor and making meals for some or whatever was needed. Bennie is survived by one daughter- Earlene Tiller and husband Larry of Bixby, Oklahoma; two sons- Donald Kent and wife Ruth of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Bennie Lee Kent and fianc Lori of Burden, Kansas; two grandsons- Jimmy and Barry Tiller; two great grandchildren; a sister- Tabitha Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma; an aunt- Bernice Kent and numerous nieces, nephews and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve; two sisters- Beatrice Marquardt and Ruth Wheeler and three brothers- Burt, Russell and O.J. Wallace. Services were Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Hominy with Pastor Mark Formby officiating. Gerry Lay led the congregation hymns In the Garden and Amazing Grace with accompanist Melvina Prather. Other taped music was Faded Love and When I Get Where Im Going . Pall Bearers were Ryan Bradsher, Roger Wheeler Jr., Charles Wheeler, Ronnie Unap, Jimmy Tiller, Barry Tiller and Honorary Pall Bearers were Members of the Hominy VFW, Charlie Johnson and Mitchell Wallace. Interment was in the A. J. Powell Cemetery under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Hominy, with the VFW Honor Guard District #5 Rifle Team paying honor to him.
