Alvin "Al" Lee Roberts Obituary Alvin "Al" Lee Roberts, age 71 of Hominy, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Pauls Valley General Hospital in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Al was born October 16, 1941 to Alvin E. and Edith (Rose) Roberts at Hominy, Oklahoma. Alvin passed away after a long battle with cancer. Al graduated in 1959 from Hominy Public Schools and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Nazarene University. In 1959 Al married Wilma Thompson in Neosho, Missouri; they lived many years in Hominy and went back and forth from Hominy to Arlington, Texas. Al worked many years as a Police Officer in Arlington, Texas, and after retiring he became an R.N. Al was a Christian and was a member of the Nazarene Church, Hominy; he was a Mason, enjoying cooking, woodworking, his grandkids and time with his family. Al also, enjoyed Country, Southern Gospel and Classical music. He taught his family about history, and learning history, and he loved his flowers and vegetable gardening. Alvin is survived by his wife- Wilma of the home, his mother- Edith Roberts of Ponca City; five children. Daughter- Angela Braun and husband Charles of Newark, Texas, and grandchildren- John, Jennifer, Jason, Chasz, Brandon, Justace and Morgan. Son- Lance Roberts of Keller, Texas, and granddaughter- Tyler. Son- Sean Roberts and wife Amber of Hominy, Oklahoma, and grandchildren- Kevin, Jeremy and Andrew. Daughter- Nikki Bailey and husband Raymond of Arlington, Texas and grandchildren- Trace, Kirsten, Nicholas, Emma, Lorna, Alainna and Caroline. Daughter- Shannon Bitner and husband Shawn of Dean, Texas and grandchildren- Tori, Maddie, Samuel, Joshua, Karis, Karra and Clara. Great grandchildren- Anistyn, Joely, Cameron, Jordan and Haily. Three siblings- Sherrice Biddle, Alan Roberts and Patricia "Patty" Otipoby and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father- Alvin E. and infant sister- Lynnette. Funeral Services were Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hominy Nazarene Church with Rev. Carl Brown officiating. Music selections- Sung in Cherokee "Amazing Grace", "It is well with my Soul" sung by Melvin Roberts, "Sowin' Love" sung by Norma Tilley and Karen Hough", special music by his Granddaughters, and "Battle Hymn of the Republic" sung by the congregation. Pall Bearers- Trace Bailey, Kevin Roberts, Chasz Braun, Brandon Braun, Sean Roberts and Lance Roberts. Interment was in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery with Powell Funeral Home making the arrangements. www.powellfuneralservice.com.
